Calling all Steel City Sports GLBT+ Organizations, yes that’s you too FrontRunners! CMU holds a vendor fair for their student orientation in order to introduce them to life on campus and to the numerous opportunities that are available in the surrounding Pittsburgh communities.
It’s really wonderful that CMU does this not just because it exposes the incoming students to the community but it’s their welcoming of us, the gay lesbian transsexual bisexual community. I know all of the groups on here are welcoming our straight friends so lets not leave them out here too. It takes all kinds to make a community and it’d be great to have as many groups go and represent for us.
Tim Leonard sent the following email to me:
As part of Orientation, we host a Pittsburgh Connections Fair to expose students to the wealth of
outdoor recreation amenities and cultural activities that the Pittsburgh region affords them. We would
like to invite your organization to participate in the Pittsburgh Connections Fair on Friday, August 23rd
from 12:00pm-1:30pm. The Fair is part of a larger initiative at the University that is generously funded
through the RK Mellon Foundation. To learn more about the program, please visit
http://cmu.edu/StudentActivities/pghconnections
Your participation in the Fair will expose over 1400 first-year students, as well as any upperclass and
graduate students who are on campus, to your organization’s mission and the services you provide.
Each organization will receive a 6’ table with a plain white tablecloth and two chairs. We recommend
bringing any promotional materials or games that you think will attract students to your services.
Check-in will begin as early as 11am and we ask that you are set-up by noon. We hope that you will be
able to join us for this informative and important orientation event.
To confirm your attendance at the 2013 Pittsburgh Connections Fair, please complete the following
information and return it to Tim Leonard via email at leonardt@andrew.cmu.edu or via fax at
412.268.5938. Please submit your registration no later than Friday, August 9. After receiving your
confirmation, I will be in contact with final event logistics such as directions and parking instructions. If
you are no longer the contact for this event, please kindly forward this invitation to the appropriate
person in your organization.
I hope all the groups can make it including Bowling, Darts, Front Runners, Softball, Volleyball, and HOCKEY!
